PROJECT BRIEF:
In my 2024 Production for Physical Environments class I was tasked with creating a physical deliverable with multiple pages and/or sections working toward one goal. The only other guideline was that all base photos used in the project needed to be provided through artificial intelligence only, specifically Adobe Firefly.
The goal of this project was to not only create something tangible and interactive, but to also familiarize ourselves with emerging AI technology.
SOLUTION:
Since I’m an avid vinyl record collector, I chose to create a collection of 4 records featuring nine fake jazz musicians, all generated using both Chat-GPT for their backstories and Adobe Firefly for their portraits and other imagery I could use for promotional material. Utilizing Adobe applications including Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, I designed 4 records with custom labels, 8 distinct album covers, 8 artist concert flyers in different styles, 9 different artist autographs, a 16-page booklet containing the backstories of each artist, and an exterior box set to hold the collection and its contents.
CHALLENGES:
The most difficult aspect of this project was creating 9 distinct yet believable jazz musicians, all with their own visual styles based on their respective time periods. I also found printing and assembly quite difficult, as printing at college can sometimes be a hit or miss, and ensuring everything was properly aligned during assembly was a tedious process, however the struggle paid off in the end!
SUMMARY:
The "Legends of Jazz: The Firefly Collection" box set was a challenging yet fascinating project to work on and bring to life. Being able to combine my love for graphic design, jazz music, vinyl records and vintage styles was a dream come true, and I hope I have the chance to do something similar once again in the future.
