DAMNATION BROCHURE
A 24-page brochure exploring the 9 Circles of Hell from Dante's Inferno, with art created by digital artist PITCHCANKER.
Year :
2025
Industry :
Publication Design
Project Duration :
3 weeks

PROJECT BRIEF:
For my 2025 Studio I class, one of our projects revolved around publication design for a fictional art exhibit featuring an artist of my own choosing. The requirements were a minimum of 5 full-page spreads, as well as a front and back cover (total of 12 pages). We were required to use Adobe InDesign to gain familiarity with the software and how to organize text within a composition.

Solution :
I chose to focus on my favorite digital artist PITCHCANKER, an illustrator who creates unsettling and powerful images using a narrow color palette of red, black and white. I paired his disturbing imagery with the story of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno, each spread telling the story of a different circle of Hell accompanied by PITCHCANKER’s equally disturbing visuals and tying it into the fictional exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art.
I created a total of 24 pages, titling the project “DAMNATION: PITCHCANKER’S PLUNGE INTO THE INFERNO.”

CHALLENGES:
One of the most difficult parts of this project was being able to balance hierarchy, as I was working with the three colors of red, white and black, PITCHCANKER's signature color palette. These three values all compete for dominance due to their intensity, so finding a middle ground proved to be difficult yet fun challenge!
I was also required to print out the brochure, so printing guidelines such as gutters, bleed and color conversion was something to keep in mind as I was designing.
SUMMARY:
"DAMNATION: PITCHCANKER'S PLUNGE INTO THE INFERNO" is a visually striking and distressing brochure that mixes the unhinged chaos of the artist's style with clean and organized typography focusing on the story of Inferno. With 11 individually designed spreads, each turn of the page offers a new disturbing experience.
